Ta da! She's done! (Or pretty damn close to it.) From this point on, it's all tweeking, fixing and upgrading. I think I can finally call her Version 1.0!

Oh, and one thing I didn't get pictures of. A new emergency break cable. Really helpful for keeping the Jeep in the same place while you run into Burger King for that double Wopper(tm) you've been hankering for.

And finally, the fender flairs. Simple as they are, they are a bit of a pain to install. Actually, I had it pretty easy, the holes (7 for each by the way) for the rear wheels were already drilled. I had to drill the holes for the front ones though. And after drilling each, I got out a q-tip dipped in POR-15 and painted each. Trying to keep the rust monster at bay. Just a suggestion, a number of those spring loaded clamps work really well holding the flairs in place while I marked the holes. But it was all worth it. They really do a good job of finishing off the Jeep.

One more bit of fluff. Gotta have the AMC logo. (Once again, a OEM part from 4WD Hardware for about $12 that probably could have been had from a dealer.)

It's not a 'joop' any more! We keep calling it that because the stamped "Jeep" logo on the side of the body didn't have much detail and the e's looked like o's. A set of decals and a few minutes later it's a "Jeep" again! (BTW, I bought the decals from 4WD hardware for about $10 each. The were official Crysler parts and I bet you could order them from your local dealer. They might be cheaper, don't know though.)

Next, a set of doorway step protectors. Simple pieces of plastic held on with doublesided tape. A lot easier to install than the metal ones. And I think I like these because I didn't have to drill any holes. Every hole I drill is another opportunity for the body to rust.

And now for the final wave of little additions. First, a set of seatbelt extenders. The seatbelt holes in this new body were about 6" further back than the original body. This put the buckels way down below the side of the seat and with the center console there now, it made it really difficult to get to the buckle. Now they are much easier to reach. Now I just need to come up with some way to keep them up there when the seats are pushed forward. Either plastic supports like in many cars or a strap of some kind to hold them up against the center console.

Last weekend my Dad and I took what was left of the old body over to the scrap steel yard. For future reference, about 300 lbs. of scrp steel is worth exactly $1.45. Almost paid for the gas to haul it there. I'm glad it's going to be recycled, I would have almost paid them to take it. Heck, my wife would have gladly paid them to get it the heck out of our back yard!
